Sloppy Joes

Plated sloppy joe burger next to chips and pickles and carrots

This dish only gets better with time in the fridge so, if you have time, plan ahead make this dish the day before!


Ingredients

  • 2 (4oz) Hodo Tofu Veggie Burger patties locate product

  • 1 tbsp olive oil 

  • 1 small onion, diced 

  • 1 green bell pepper, diced 

  • 2 cloves of chopped garlic 

  • 1 & 1/2 tsp chili powder 

  • 1 & 1/2 tsp smoked paprika 

  • 1/4 tsp chili flakes 

  • 1 tsp dijon mustard 

  • 2 tbsp ketchup 

  • 1/2 tsp dark molasses 

  • 1/2 cup veggie broth 

  • 1/2 cup tomato puree 

  • S&P to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a heavy bottom pan.

  2. Add onion and bell pepper. add a pinch of salt and pepper. Saute for 5-7 on medium low heat until vegetables are soft but not colored.

  3. Add garlic and saute for 1 more minute. Reduce the heat to low.

  4. Add smoked paprika, chili powder and chili flakes. Stir to toast spices for 1-2 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat.

  5. Take the Hodo Tofu Veggie Burger patties and grind/mash them with your hands (tearing them into little pieces) into the pan. Add tomato puree, veggie broth, ketchup, molasses, dijon mustard  to the pan.

  6. Bring mixture to a gentle boil. Add salt and pepper to taste. Turn to medium low heat and cover. Cook for 45 minutes stirring every 10-15 minutes.
